Monty Python – ‘Absolutely Anything’ Movie

The Monty Python’s Flying Circus team are getting back together this year for another feature film. Although not technically a Monty Python production, the new film ‘Absolutely Anything’ was co-written and will be directed by Terry Jones who also directed ‘The Life of Brian’ and ‘The Meaning of Life’. So far original surviving Pythons Michael Palin, John Cleese, Terry Jones and Terry Gilliam have signed up to provide the voices of a group of aliens who empower an earthling to be able to do absolutely anything in order to see what a mess he will make of the world. Eric Idle has not yet confirmed he will take part in the project but it is believed there is every chance he will yet sign up, in addition to the Monty Python crew, Robin Williams will provide the voice for a talking dog character in this sci-fi farce that is due to start filming in the UK in the spring.

The new movie will be eagerly awaited, no doubt the original geniuses of English comedy will do it for us again. In the meantime enjoy the classic Ministry for Funny Walks Sketch…

Trotters Independent Traders Inc.?!

Rumors have it that the British comedy classic ‘Only Fools and Horses‘ is set for a US remake. Apparently a pilot episode has been commissioned which will likely see the streets of Peckham replaced by the hustle of New York city. No word yet on the format but it is anticipated that it will stay true to the original set up of two rogue but likable brothers living with their aging uncle while attempting to make a living from wheeling and dealing.

It is understood that Steven Cragg and Brian Bradley, the production team behind ‘Scrubs’, are currently working on the pilot.

Steve Carrell from ‘The Office’ has expressed a strong interest in starring in the US remake of this English comedy gem, also tipped are Jason Biggs from American Pie who might play the role of Rodney Trotter and potentially Robin Williams for the part of Uncle Albert.

US remakes of British comedies have a patchy record at best, hopefully the US Only Fools and Horses will defy the odds, we will wait and see, in the meantime check out the Batman & Robin clip – without a doubt the highlight of the entire series.

A Good Life for the Good Neighbors

The Good Life as this was originally known in the UK had it’s title changed to Good Neighbors for it’s US release to avoid confusion with a lesser known US drama also called The Good Life.

This excellent example of classic English comedy ran for 4 seasons from 1975 to 1978 and included 2 specials, the second of which was the final episode and was filmed in front of a live studio audience that included Queen Elizabeth II and her husband Prince Philip.

Although Good Neighbors looks now to have an all star cast, the only member with any significant profile at the time of filming was Richard Briers. The original role of Jerry was scripted to be played by Peter Bowles but he was not available, he later played opposite Penelope Keith in the another classic British comedy, To The Manor Born. Paul Eddington as we all know went on to star in ‘Yes Minister’

Good Neighbors was filmed on location in a suburb of North London, two houses side by side were found for the Goods and the Leadbetters, you can see them as they are today on Google Streetview.
